Harley battery drain issue

I am having an issue with my 73 Harley 3 wheeler. I put a brand new battery in it and drove around for awhile this evening it all of sudden died in the middle of the road. It would not even turn over so I went back home and got a another battery installed it and it ran fine. Could the voltage regulator be bad it says Bosch on it? What else could cause it to drain a new battery down in a few hours of driving it? Also are these carts support to be loud? The muffler doesn't have any holes in it, is there a place to get a bigger muffler?

Did you ever find a resolution to this? We are having the same issue.

Put voltmeter leads on a fully charged battery terminals and read voltage. It should be >=12vdc; if not, your battery is suspect.
With cart running, test again. If the running voltage is not 1-2 volts higher, then you have a charging issue. The service manual has testing techniques to determine if its a generator or regulator issue.

Thank you. We did replace the battery as well as the belt. Looking online it may be a voltage regulator or starter generator issue? I am new to the golf cart world so very open to other possibilities? It is a 75 gas golf cart.

For sure you have a VR or a starter issue. Those VRs have an adjustment inside of them. If you take to case off you will see a little adjustment screw that can go in and out to get more or less volts going to the battery. By the life of my I can't remember which way is which, though. If you can't get the voltage right there then your stater / gen needs serviced. Any car alternator shop will be able it going right.
