Cart sped up then shut off

2003 EZGO cart. While going very slow, the cart quickly sped up for a couple of seconds then nothing. Sounds like solenoid is clicking and reverse beeper sounds. There was a slight electrical burn smell. All battery connections are tight with no corrosion.

This cart is new to us and is being used as a clay tennis court drag which is done at a very slow pace, and drag weight is negligible, maybe 5 lbs. Does driving at slow speeds cause problems? The cart was much faster than an average cart which is why I thought slow speeds may be detrimental to the electronics. Any advice would be appreciated.
