Default Steering Wheel for an 83?

I'm looking for a nice looking budget steering wheel for my 83 but all the ones I'm finding say they only fit an 84 on up (My shaft is splined).. After soaking it in WD-40 for the past 6 months, it finally came off.. I would like to keep it under $75 and that would have to include the adapter if it even needs one. Since this thing is splined, shouldnt my options be greater? Will a standard splined auto wheel work?

I think you can put a late model factory wheel on it ($20 used) they are much nicer than the old 3 spoke

Scotty, Do you or anyone else know what the difference is between a 83 and 84?
Also, I just measured my colum and its 1.5" in diameter and 24" long, which is the same size they list colum covers for but they say it wont fit an 83..

the steering is different. I think 83 has a box and 84 has rack and pinion... if you can measure the shaft where it goes into the wheel and count the splines on the shaft I will look at mine and see if it is the same....

I knew the box vs R&P was different but thats at the other end and shouldnt effect the steering wheel end.

I come up with 40 splines and an O.D. of .685
Here is a picture for reference too:

Not easy counting those splines is it

I counted 3 different times and came up with 40 each time.. If you have 33/34 that tells me why the pre 84 wont work/fit.

Thanks a million for taking the time to check for me Scotty.

They are not cheap but at least you can get what you need from them? I have used there products for many years on antique autos and golf carts and never had any problems with the product.
