Default Today brought back old times

I got to make a quail hunt today, and it brought back a lot of memories of when I was younger and we still had plenty of wild quail and of bird hunting with my Daddy. Not enough wild quail left in this part of the country to hunt anymore. But as far as 'pen raised' birds go, it was an EXCELLENT hunt. The birds flew really good, some that we missed, flying 200 yds before lighting back down. Just as impressive was the bird dogs ...... they were a pleasure to watch ..... pointing, backing, and holding till we were set up. Quail hunting in the South, use to be a really big deal, but by the 70s they were getting hard to find.

Sounds like fun, We used to hunt the gambel quail in the desert sage brush. They would run along the floor and you had to push them to get up and fly.
We didn't have nice lookin dogs like ya'll. Good Times

Being pen raise, you had to kick them up. But once up, they flew exceptionally well. The dogs were furnished by the outfitter, they were better than any we had 50 yrs ago.

Sounds good! Never had them, but a buddy of mine killed a bunch of pheasant a couple years ago. Cooked the same way. They were so good I could eat a bucketfull of them right now.

I grew up hunting Quail with my Dad. Nothing like those days which are long gone. I can smell my mother cooking those birds now. So far I don't think I have eat anything any better. Wish I could go back to those days.

Bird hunting is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

My best memories are dove hunting with my dad and a bunch of our friends. Most days we'd all leave with our daily limit.

Never been quail or pheasant hunting because we just don't have any around our parts, but a buddy of mine used to raise about 30,000 quail a year and sell to local doggers.

I love bird hunting but more than that I love to watch my dogs hunt. We have two awesome female Vizslas who live to hunt. Watching them work is amazing. It is so enjoyable I would do it without a gun. But my "girls" would be disappointed if I didn't shoot them. They know their job and they know mine. I've gotten a cross look from them more than once when the bird got away.

Pheasant is my preference. We've hunted farm raised here in Missouri but wild ones in Iowa.
