Re: to rattle can.....
I painted mine with Rust-o-leum and couldn't believe what a little wet sanding and a buffer would do.

Re: to rattle can.....
Ok, I'm getting ready to do my cart also. So I guess I am looking at 3 cans primer, 3 cans flat black, and 3 cans clear coat. Or should I go 4 cans each. I also have a palm sander that I need to get paper for. I am thinking 800-1000 grit. Is that about right? What's the time required? Could it be done in a weekend?
What about the seats. I know rustoleom makes a vinyl paint. Does this work well?? |

Re: to rattle can.....
I typically use between 400 to 600 grit for sanding the primer and make sure if the body is plastic you apply adhesion promoter before the primer. Just a heads up also, if you paint it flat black then clear it, it will come out shiny black.

Re: to rattle can.....
Thanks Master. I am going for a glossy black so I planned on doing a nice clear coat. I'll get the 400-600 grit for the primer and I heard about 1000 -1500 for the wet sand.
As far as adhesion promoter, does that come in a spray and is it sold with the paint? What about the Krylon with fusion tech. Supposed to stick to plastic with out any prep. I am going to primer so that it's done right, but they make a primer with fusion. Will that work or should I still get the promoter. |

Re: to rattle can.....
In my personal opinion get the adhesion promoter, even if the paint you are using says it adheres to plastic. I can't tell you how many people have used what they call "paint for plastic" only to have to figure out how to get it off after it starts flaking.
They do make it in a spray can so that is a small price to pay to make sure the paint adheres properly. Just make sure to follow the directions and you will be fine. Usually you would use between 1500 to 2000 for wet sanding then buffing, the finer the grit the less buffing you will have to do. |

Re: to rattle can.....
I agree with the 2000. I sanded mine with 1200 and still could see scratches in the paint. The 2000 for a finally sand.

Thanks Master. I'm thinking of doing my cart this weekend. I'll try and get pics on here as soon as I can.
