Why do I keep frying the ignitor in my ezgo ?
I did the HEI converstion correctly (so I think) but I'm replacing the ignitor about every 3 or 4 months.
It's getting expensive.
I'm using "new" 1977 Chevy Nova 4.1 L
Any suggestions ??

Most likely heat. Mount it on a heat sink with thermal paste and drill two dimples where it mounts to fit the bumps on the back side. You want it to sit flat against the heat sink.

You could also try a different module. Some are better than others. I have had the same Accell since 2013.

Although I have never done an HEI conversion on an EZ Go I have done a bunch on old Columbias and Harleys. You may have too much current in your ignition circuit which will cause the "too much heat" thing as well. You can try installing a ballast resistor or two between the HEI module and the ignitor / coil to take some of that current out. I normally use 1.5 ohm resistors but have gone as high as 2.5 ohm.

That's odd. I have done quite a few HEI conversions now on a multitude of machines and have found that the conversion virtually eliminated backfires on just about all of them.

Make sure that your throttle lever closing all the way when the accelerator pedal is at rest as to prevent fuel from flowing without ignition. If you have a way to adjust when spark starts / stops you may want to try adjusting to start spark earlier as well. Without knowing your specific cart, there's normally a microswitch somewhere that will activate with the accelerator pedal. Those can usually be adjusted.

We had to swap the polatiry on the coil to get it to start, but it runs great now! Thank you for all the helpful sharing!
What do mean mean by swapping the polarity on the coil , switching positive and ground?
