lift compatible with carryall front brakes
hey guys im in the process of buying a 96 clubcar carryall 2 and it has mechanical front brakes. i am going to be using the cart for hunting. mainly just retrieving deer and taking corn into woods. no hardcore off roading or anything. i already talked to allsports and jakes. jakes offered a spindle lift so that i could keep my brakes but i didnt want a spindle lift. i want an a-arm lift but neither jakes or allsports offer an option.
so should i ditch the front brakes and get a better lift or keep the brakes and hope i dont break the spindle lift? thanks matt |

Re: lift compatible with carryall front brakes
The Jakes Spindle Lifts are really, REALLY solid, and I've never heard of one breaking (although they of course don't offer the ride of the LT kits) ... My Workhorses w Jakes lifts routinely haul trailers loaded with firewood through the access trails in the woods, large loads of Stone, Dirt, etc and I have never encountered a problem. I've read some bad stuff on the A/S kits though, same with the Rhox - so if You are going to keep the front brakes I wouldn't be afraid to use the Jake's Spindle kit one bit.
And for the record, I've never been a fan of the brakes on CC - marginal at best - so eliminating half the braking power by ditching the front ones probably isn't a sound choice. The *Best* bet would be to go Long Travel and hit up CPP for a set of rear discs, but that's not a very cheap route, it's a sizeable investment with little return financially at sale, especially if the cart is already almost 20 years old. |

Re: lift compatible with carryall front brakes
ok cool thanks, yeah ive just heard some bad stuff about spindle lifts breaking and stuff. jakes show they have a long travel setup that works with mechanical but when i talked to the guy on the phone he said no. i think he was wrong. but anyway thats out of the budget and so is getting a different lift and buying a new brake setup.
ok so i'll prolly just go with jakes spindle lift for now then. thanks |

Re: lift compatible with carryall front brakes
Prob (at least IMHO) your best bet ... I was being a bit *nice* above when I described the abuse that the carts get around here, LOL, so I can say with confidence that if *I* haven't broken a Jakes Spindle lift, the activities You described most assuredly wont!
You may want to check when You order though, it's possible You may need longer cables for the front brakes. I'm not sure how the CC lifts are set up, but on the EZGO's they not only drop the spindles by 6" but also relocate them slightly forward (about 2") - that translates into a substantial difference when you factor in the turning radius, etc of the wheels and hubs. It's just a thought, but probably worth the few minutes to ask before diving into a project only to find out You need a bunch more stuff You hadn't counted on ... |
