Yeah, I know, I'm just gonna rock these turds until they die, then I'll grab some correct 6v batteries (that all match as well)

Best bet is to assume all wiring is suspect. Do you want to spend the time and money to chase down all wiring and correct it, and pay $600+ for new batteries? Likely that's not all that's wrong.
You have my same line of thinking... I'm not going to sink a ton of cash into a cart that's only worth a couple hundo bucks. I spent about $40 so far on it; key switch, led lights, and a 36 volt solenoid (correct one). I'm gonna rock these batteries till they die, as least they are deep cycle 12 volt. After throwing everything in there, it was working correctly!

The only other cash I'm gonna spend on it is rattle can paint her.

Yurtle has a VERY good point about a 12 volt solenoid ... you will want to check the voltage across the two small wires going to the solenoid to see if it measures 12 volts or 36 volts. This is the activation voltage for your solenoid and you will want to make sure you replace it with the correctly rated solenoid. The "voltage" rating of a solenoid refers to the "activation" voltage of the small posts, not to the voltage hooked up to the large posts.
