1968-1972 Cushman golfster
I've got an electric Cushman Golfster in the 68-72 vintage with a GE 5bc 48 jb 248 motor that I'm thinking of replacing with something that has more power. I'm planing a full restoration of the undercarriage this winter and need to start acquiring the necessary parts before I get started; first step is finding a compatible motor that won't slow down when going up hills. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Re: 1968-1972 Cushman golfster
I have a '68 Golfster.
The motor likely isn't what's holding you back. It's the 36v on a very heavy cart that is holding you back. Those carts are 100% steel versus the fiberglass / plastic used in modern carts. There is only so much 36v can do. To get more ooomph you are probably going to have to bump that up the 48v. I am sure that your motor can handle 48v. You may have to swap out all of your wiring to a thicker gauge and perhaps change out your resistor bank as well. |
