Default Where there's smoke there is bearing damage

Situation. 1990 Marthon, teenager driving it, accelerator pedal sticks so cart wants to go full speed. Teenager was able to stop the cart with the parking brake, kid talking to his mom after they got the cart stopped, however, failed to realize that the accelerator was still stuck motor is still trying to go full speed, Mom see's smoke, realizes cart is still on, turn keys off to kill power.

Accelerator has since been fixed and cart still drives, but excessive heat in motor has damaged a bearing in the motor as motor is now has a loud whine when driving. Motor has not been pulled yet (that's my job.)

So I am wondering if anyone has any advice on what to check first for most likely issue, and if there are any tips for taking the motor apart.

Thanks, Troy

the smoke may have been from the belt burning up when the engine was running against the brakes. the primary clutch was spinning while the engine was running, but the belt was held firm by the driven cluch which is attach to the drive train that was held up by the brakes.

check the belt and if it looks like it needs replacing, if it does, replace it and see if it still wines.

Stalling an electric motor is bad. I would bet there is more wrong than a bearing. I was told that when a motor is stalled, the com gets hot and week. I would have it checked by a pro.
