2002 CC DS Elec Rear end Noise
Hi,
I have a 2002 Club Car DS Electric and was trying to cycle the batteries by raising the rear end and running the cart. I noticed that the passenger wheel power spun but the drivers wheel struggle and stopped. Noise seems to becoming from trans or drivers rear axle. I drained the rear-end, found no shavings and replaced with Royal Purple 10w-30 with no improvement....I have attached a drop box video link. Thanks for any input or advise. https://www.dropbox.com/s/c9058tcq9t...nd%20noise.mp4 |

Running the motor like that with no load will cause damage!
Was it making the noise before you jacked it up and ran it? |

Re: 2002 CC DS Elec Rear end Noise
Rear end 101: an open rear end (like these ones) will only spin one side at a time. Had you held the passenger side the driver's side would have spun. That is normal.
What isn't normal is that gnarly sound. Take your wheels and brake drums off and see if something is dragging or grinding. Whatever is causing that noise should be easy to spot when you find it. |

Thanks for the reply. Do you think its a bearing? Its been stored all winter but I do remember a little noise from drivers rear wheel last summer. When I spin the wheel by hand I can feel a little resistants.

Re: 2002 CC DS Elec Rear end Noise
You should probably feel a little resistance - your brakes scrubbing lightly (as they should) will cause that. Only way to know for sure is to take a look, I'm not as experienced with rear ends on these as some of the other guys, but I'd venture to guess that if you don't find the problem in the brakes somewhere that you may be looking at a bearing issue. Hopefully someone with lots of experience like TahoeDawg will see this and confirm/deny.

Can you make a video of this with it on the ground? These things make all kinds of noises when you rev them up high when they're up in the air. What's it sound like while you're driving it?

Re: 2002 CC DS Elec Rear end Noise
Ok no need for new video. Put the new steering wheel on, took it for a test ride, and no noise. Just a mild wind from the motor but that's normal. Seems a little slower then I remember though. One other issue that pops up once in awhile is while under way the motor slows and beeps. I let off and on the pedal which gets it back to normal. Thought maybe its a speed sensor issue so I did the recommended test which resulted normal. FYI thanks for the help and interest.
