Adjusting tie rods for toe in '98 TXT
I need some advice! I have recently completed a major upgrade on my '98 electric TXT. Switched to a 48v Lithium system. Lifted 4" with a Jakes Spindle lift kit. Replaced stock wheels/tires with 12' wheels and 23" tires. Replaced the steering box.
I checked the toe in after this and found it to be 7/8" toe in. I want to adjust it closer to spec, but I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the tie rods. I was able to loosen the jam nuts on the passenger side tie rod at both ends, but I cannot turn the tie rod. It is smooth, so I can't put a wrench on it and I don't want to clamp vise grips on it! On the driver side tie rod, there are no threads visible at either end, so I don't know if it can even be adjusted. Do I need to disassemble the tie rod at the wheel and turn the tie rod in order to adjust it? Everything I have read indicates that this is not necessary. But I am NOT a mechanic and have now experience doing this. I will attempt to attach a couple photos of the tie rods. TIA |

There is a hex area on the shaft coming out of the steering box, it may be possible the rubber boot has been pulled over it. if not a good pair of vise grips will turn it. If your steering wheel is straight adjust them equally.

Too add if no threads are visible , tie rod on that side of cart may have been shortened as far as it goes.
Small pipe wrench or vise grips is acceptable if no flat for a wrench to fit will work out turn tie rod. May want to make sure steering box is centered before connecting steering linkage. Steering wheel can always be recentered after alignment if not centered when going straight.😊 |

Thanks for the replies. I will see if I can slide the plastic cover and expose a flat portion to get a wrench on it and will double check steering box centered.
