The 390-460 set up is the same as the HF 459 with the exception of the exhaust header bolt spacing.

I picked up this 16hp Vanguard off Market place for $190 with 4hrs on the Hr meter. Was in a Generator so has 1” tapered shaft that we are going to adapt.

I picked up this complete swap kit for $400. Included header, mount, cradle, clutch, tach, shifter cables, ignition switch brand new in the Box.

I also picked up this branch new HF 670 for $500. Wouldn’t start and was past return time. Pulled out the Safety shut off plunger, adjusted the carb and it’s running. I have $900 into this entire swap with all brand new parts

Here's some pics I found of the front and rear swing arms, after the engine was removed

Why couldn't a brace mating the two together be made, then bolt the 18hp motor onto the brace between the swing arms

I was talking with a guy running a 16hp Vanguard in his Ezgo Workhorse

He told me this engine is designed to charge around 3600 rpm and if the cart idles alot, the battery will drain

Is this true? Any way around this issue?

Small engines usually run at a constant rpm, so yes the charging system will be optimized for that rpm. The rpm is different with every engine, but yes it will be around that governed 3600 rpm area.

The only way to get better charging at idle is to use a starter/generator from a golf cart. They were designed to charge at lower rpms.

Another way is to use a "one wire alternator" either from a car or tractor. Kubota style alternators are nice and small and are easy to hook up. A car alternator like a Delco 7127 can be used, although it's not a true "one wire" but uses 3 wires I think. Still easy though.

A mount will have to be fabricated to use either options, you'll need a V pulley behind your clutch, and you'll need a belt and some wiring.

I have talked with alot of people regarding the Vegas Carts engine cradle on their Workhorse series

I am still trying to figure out why it wouldn't work on my MPT 1200
