Gas TXT runs strong but slow uphill. Carb issue?
Hey Everyone, just to give a little background on my scenario, I have a gas EZGO TXT with Robins 295cc engine. I recently replaced the carb since I was having constant backfire issues out of the old one. I installed the new carb but did not make any adjustments to it, just bolted on and left as is. It runs strong and fast on flat ground and small hills, but I have some steep hills in my neighborhood and the cart loses a ton of power and seems to crawl up these hills. When I pull choke on the hills, it does restore power and seems to be just fine. So I suspect a carb adjustment is needed somewhere? I’m not good with carbs though so I’m not even sure how to adjust it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have not found clear instructions that have helped so any guidance is appreciated. Some other things to note, I recently drained all the gas and replaced with fresh, replaced plugs, replaced fuel filter. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and let me know what else it could be it not the carb?

Did it make the hills OK before the new carb ? What kind of carb? OEM ? Any pictures? |

Re: Gas TXT runs strong but slow uphill. Carb issue?
Sorry, should have mentioned above... I got the new carb on Amazon and was fairly cheap so I’m sure it’s just a OEM replacement. It is identical to the old one and had good reviews but the quality is TBD. The cart would slow on hills with the old carb too but not as bad. I figured it was the clutch going bad and didn’t try to figure out the carb until I realized choking brought the power back. I will try and post a picture in. Thanks!

Backfiring is usually the throttle plate not closing all the way when you let off the peddle and from what I read around here them new cheap carbs are junk like jclark says. Better off with the oem.

Ok thanks guys, I will look into getting an OEM carb. In the meantime, what do you think it means that pulling choke brings back power? Running too rich? Too lean? And what is the standard if there is one for setting a new carb?
