I'm trying to decide what material to do the floorboards in. Under the front seat I decided to go with expanded steel since I will want the subwoofer to be heard, but for every part of this build I don't want to do what everyone else does, like aluminum diamond plate. I thought about just steel sheet coated in truck bed liner and carpeted, but I'm not super crazy about that either. I don't want to go with wood either. Has anybody ever used plexiglass? Might look good when the frame is all purdied up. it would have to be thick and it would also have to be insulated from the frame with foam tape. Any suggestions?

Re: The officially official Cougar Scooter build thread
plexy would be awesome untill the first time you stepped on it. that stuff scratches VERY easily. with the style of your cart, shag carpet would ROCK or maybe a bear skin rug!!!

I like the shag carpet idea! Just wouldnt be too comfortable here in miami with the heat and sand. How about powder coated expanded steel on top of plexiglass? Or a thin, replaceable piece on top of a thick piece?it gets scratched up, I just replace it.

Couple more ideas... Teak and holly a la sailboat. Also, wicker. I also thought about picking up someone's old giveaway refrigerator and using the textured steel from the doors. I looked into specialty textured stainless and man is it $$$$! $700 for a4 x 8 sheet!

Why not a hard wood floor? I picked up a box of laminate flooring pretty cheap. you an get it down then us a nice poly urethane and coat the crap out of it and it will seal well.
something different. Arin |

I don't think I would try to put a sealer on laminate, might not stick with out sanding. It should last a couple years out of the box. You could use a rug of some kind on top of it in the heavy wear spots.
