electric problems
I have a 36 volt Club Car (1989) i bought that will not run.
it has new batteries, i did look at a wiring digram and they are hooked up right. but the cart will not run. I need to know how to test the motor and how it should be wired. Right now i turn the key on and put it in reverse or forward and the solenoid will start clicking fast. Can any help Thanks David |

The rapid clicking is hard on the solenoid contacts. It is caused by low voltage, You have one or more bad batteries.
Verify this with a voltmeter attached to the battery pack mains, you will see significant voltage drop when you press the gas. That's my guess  |

Make sure the batteries have enough distilled water to just cover the plates. Charge them until the charger shuts off. This may take up to 16 hours or so. See if the cart will move then. If not, do what " scottyb " suggested. They may just be dead.

you need to see if the main solenoid is clicking, you may be hearing just the speed solenoids...............the main is the furthest left solenoid without a resistor coil mounted on top...............so get that figured out its possible thats all it is..................................

We did find a bad battery, Replaced it and the cart still wont run.
It only has one solenoid, When i turn the key on and put it in reverse the solenoid will activate and i have 36 volts on both sides of it. When i push on the pedal the solenoid will lose power. Can any one help. Thanks David |

You need to get a volt meter and check the pack volts, then check each battery and post the volts, 36 volts is a dead pack

It sounds like you may have more than 1 bad battery! As was suggested before, check the voltages again under a load. Check each battery while you hold the brake on and push on the accelerator pedal at the same time. Do not do this for more than a few seconds! That will be more than enough time to tell if your batteries are good or not!

So in a nutshell you need to do the following,
Charge the batteries and make sure you let the charger complete the charge. Then let them sit for at least 12 hours and take a voltage reading of each battery separately then a reading of the whole pack. Then do the load test as described above. Report all the readings after you complete this  |
