Default Ignition module for a par car needed

Serial number 5K 20213 C8. 2 stroke motor. Not sure of the year. I did the IM test and the module reads all the way around the fly wheel. Its my understanding it should read 0 for part of the rotation. Is that correct?

If it failed the test yes it is bad.

I just did the HEI upgrade on mine and it works awesome, I highly recommend doing it and can help you with it if needed. I would even be willing to send you the components (transistors and resistors) since I had to buy so many to get them. They come in 25 packs on Amazon typically. Since putting the HEI on it has run better than ever other than the fact my key switch smoked itself right after...

Yep. Those modules are gone and they aren't coming back, unfortunately. In addition to what Hook Set said, check out the sticky on top of the forum.

Ok I did put in a Pertronics Module. I had to mount it on the old plate. I also have a internal resistor coil. It still doesn't fire. Anybody have any ideas? Also why does it have 4 or 5 solenoids? and does it have a pulsar coil on the fly wheel? Vin number is 5K 20213 C8 I assume it is a 1988 model.

I don't know that 5 solenoid model at all but I was under the impression that those didn't come around until the 90s. I wish I could be of more help with that.

With regard to the Pertronix, I have never used it but others have done so successfully so it can be made to work. I am not aware of any pulsar coils on those. Everything is built into the module itself. As long as you have the rotor with the magnets in place that is all that is needed. How far apart is the module and the rotor? I think that those have to be pretty close to work.

I thought that the C8 on the end of the vin meant it was a 1988. I didn't really think that it had a pulsar coil either. I did move the new module closer to the rotor, between a sixteenth to an eighth inch.

It looks like yours is a 1988 via the online vin decoders. I just didn't think those 5 solenoid ones came about that early.

Here is a link to most HD / Columbia service manuals:

You may be able to match what you have to the corresponding service manual to get confirmation.
