What do you guys do to the trim to restore it after painting the body?
Painting the body and wondering about all the trim pieces, the black panels and aluminum trim.

Re: What do you guys do to the trim to restore it after painting the body?
I have used SEM automotive restoration paints in the past with excellent results on black plastic and trim. They come in spray cans and have a variety of products and sheens available. I have found the Satin Black Trim Paint aerosol 15 oz. cans to be available in automotive paint/refinishing supply stores.

I use Krylon for Plastic on all of the plastic and Rustoleum hammered on all the aluminum.

All the trim pieces can be made to look like new with BLAK. Available on Amazon. Use it on all plastic trim including the floor mat and steering wheel. No silicons like the automotive stuff. So, it is not slippery.
8 oz bottle will easily do 5 Precedents and they have lots of plastic. I use a 2" wide small foam corner paint brush from Ace for the applicator. Use very little at a time on the brush. It is thin and will drip thru the sponge brush on initial application. I use a 6" putty knife to place against the cart paint while doing those areas. Keep a damp rag with you. If you get it on the paint, wipes right off. Foam brush cleans up in cold water when you are done. You can handle the parts after about 3-5 minutes. https://www.amazon.com/BLAK-PERMANEN...2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1 Sample picture of single application on a Precedent. |

Re: What do you guys do to the trim to restore it after painting the body?
You'll love the results. If you are also doing your floor mat, make your first application of BLAK on the brush over the mat so you can see the how the initial drops run almost straight thru the foam applicator and get used to how much you will actually use on the brush each time. Once you get the foam brush 'wet' with the stuff, then the few drops added each time won't drip thru as easily or at all. On floor mat, I actually squeeze out a small stream on the mat and spread it. If you do all trim first, then the mat, one brush will do it all. The mat is pretty rough on the foam brush. If you have a beautiful painted floor, keep something under your cart while you apply it to protect the floor.
That's my 2 cents. Been using this stuff for over 5 years. |
