Here are the two cams, stock vs CPP. The CPP cam obviously does not have the compression release. Side by side it doesn't look all that much different. I know these cams don't show much to the naked eye, but it does look to have higher lift and longer duration.

As a side note, this engine was very very clean on the inside. No metal. No glitter. Just a thin layer of thick dirty sludge at the very bottom of the crankcase, and on the oil pump screen. I cleaned all that up really good, cleaned up and inspected the oil pump. Looked at the cylinders with my little inspection mirror. Checked the play in the crank. Checked the bearings. Checked the seals. Rotated the engine around a couple times. All is good. I wouldn't expect a brand new engine to look a whole lot better. Buttoned it up for the night.

Next up is to weld the exhaust manifold back up (see the perfect slice in the middle). I had to cut it, I don't remember why lol But, that's why I have the Lincoln 140!

Hopefully I can get this thing installed on Thursday. I'll have to connect the pipe to my muffler, so more welding yay!

Welded the exhaust manifold up, changed the valve cover gaskets and seals, changed the oil filter, and filled with oil and zinc additive. Filled the carb bowl up with fuel, poured a splash down the throat of the carb. Fired right up! No tuning necessary. She runs smooth. The cam makes it sound really good, much meaner than a stocker. This is my first cammed Vanguard so stay tuned for the first ride!

Here's a video for your viewing pleasure. She's a quick revver!

January 2021, the 16 Vanguard was showing signs of a blown head gasket.

On January 31, 2021, a Predator 670 Vtwin was installed as a temporary powerplant until the 16hp engine can be rebuilt and upgraded. The 670 bolted right in place of the 16 and did not require any modifications to make it work, other than removing the key switch and wiring the starter etc into the golf cart wiring. Works very well.
