Re: Westinghouse: Resurrection
Update: This is going to get expensive! Motor will need rewind + Lots of Parts. Batteries won't take a charge (salt water shorted now only hold 5.5 volts). Estimate just to get motor + batts = 800.00 or more!
At that price, this becomes prohibitive unless I get a donor cart to piece this one back together. I have been looking at doing a gas conversion using a used cart, this would cost about the same as restoration so it is a possibility. If anyone sees one of these Westinghouse/Marketeer carts for sale, give me a buzz. |

Re: Westinghouse: Resurrection
We actually have that same westinghouse gold cart at my dez trailer. It was customized in the 70's, air shocks, lifted, and a custom paint job. We tried to get it back on the road as best as possible, but it just kept fighting us, we had to reweld so much on the frame at the front neck area. we finaly gave up and turned it into a trailer to tow behind the ez go.
I ended up here searching for info on a 70's cushman golfster I just picked up here are some pics (hopefully I can post them from facebook) |

Re: Westinghouse: Resurrection
Got the cart out of the driveway and into the back yard. Got the blessing from the wife to get started as long as the garage gets taken care of at the same time! Plan for a gas conversion with a live axle chain drive, motorcycle engine and a possible conversion to 4 wheels instead of 3. Work starts after I get my garage insulated and an AC unit in the window (100F today was too much to work inside a sweat lodge!). More to follow!

Re: Westinghouse: Resurrection
UPDATE:
Ordered a 1" live axle, 4 on 4 hubs and pillow block bearings. First order of busines is to get the cart rolling on it's own tires, then prep for a atv or motorcycle engine. Since the cart will see mostly dirt road and sand should be O.K. I plan on keeping the gearing down low (<30) and have enough tire to pull out dead cart from the beach. So I finally got off my butt and ordered parts, should be fun!! |

Re: Westinghouse: Resurrection
Went to get the camera and the batteries are dead. So far I've gotten the axle, bearings and wheel hubs. The axle shaft I got is a 1"x36" with a 3/4 step down that is threaded. Been searching ebay and craigslist for a donor ATV or cycle, even the go kart section but so far nothing in my price range that I want to deal with. I know I'm being picky, but this will be my toy and I want it my way at my price. So I'll post pics tomorrow and get started on bolting the axle in for a fit test.
