Question about a GX390
Actually, I just thought of a member who said something about this,
but I have an opportunity to buy a GX390, very cheap. It's brand new and suffered a little damage in freight, which has been ...well.. It cranks and runs fine, but it is a recoil start. How can I make this an electric start ? Do they make a retrofit kit for them ?? It would be going in a Workhorse. |

Re: Question about a GX390
....that starter cost almost as much as the motor does! Forget it and get the right motor.

Because if so, then you could fab up a way to use the factory starter gen to turn over the motor, and make it run like a cart. Pedal start. |

I'm driving myself nutz.. Everything is perfect, my wife likes the cart idea.. The last kid is in collegiate high school..and picking out her college, I found a WH with a blown engine... Anyway, money is sort of an issue.. This motor has one damaged motor mount lug, the other three are fine. I can get it for less than 400 bucks, brand new, no warranty. |

But if you like the ideal of buying a genuine honda, then you could give it a shot. I personaly would perfer an acutal honda over a clone any day, but only if the price is right.. Those clone engines are pretty good motors. |

Re: Question about a GX390
I know where one other Honda is ..a GX340 , this one has
electric start, however, but it has some hours on it. A new carb is on it..so that's a plus. I can maybe get it for 300. Instead of tackling this kind of project right now, I think I am just going to rebuild what I have, get that going..and then maybe start a complete restore on something else. I originally just wanted a Workhorse or Carryall to keep form having to hustle all over the place..but this forum is so full of goodies and info, it's easy to get side tracked. Quote:

Re: Question about a GX390
That is an excellent choice IMHO there are hidden expenses in conversions like clutches and ignition and belts .... the cost of a bargain engine can soon match a new complete unit and freshly rebuilt stock is always a correct fit. Good luck with this and keep us posted!
