Default 42v Western to 48v

Friend put 6 - 8v batts instead of 7 - 6v
In his Western 42 v cart.
Says it picked up some speed & ran it
for 18 holes.
95 , 97 ? model,
Think the older 42 westerns are 36V
motors & controllers .

Think he may burn up solenoid & controller
Or
Is it a cheap upgrade?
(+ only need to buy 6 batts)
