Default 88 stock clutch going on a 16hp clone

Is it possible to use this clutch on my clone? I have already machined it to fit the one inch shaft and broched a 1/4" key way. Just wondering if any one has tried this set up yet?

Work? Maybe, Work right? No..... You answered you own question when you said you were putting a 2 cycle clutch on a 4 cycle. Engagement and shift point will be way off. A 2 cycle runs at twice the RPM of a 4 cycle

Is there a possible spring change that might affect the clutch so the motor will idle without engaging untill reving up the engine. Right now I'm waiting on the new belt from CPP. Then I will test before trashing the idea and biting the bullet and ordering a new clutch.

Big Block Man you were right! I didn't take me long to figure out I need to order a aftermarket clutch for my 16hp clone. What clutch should I order that will work the best on my clone?

It's a 88 ezgo marathon, but I have already installed a 94 rear end with differential and factory 94 driven clutch on it. I fabbed up my motor mounts and have rode it with the two stroke clutch I machined. This clutch must have been already shot because within 2 days it came apart internally and never worked even close to what I wanted. Now its time to bite the bullet and order one. I need to know what will work best and where to get it from?

Check the sticky post at the top. Comet went under and some other new clutches have come out. Also note some of them are 8" diameter, larger, they will have faster top end but usually they cost more. I used a stock yamaha on the one I just did, used the CPP adapter and it seems to work just like the stock engine did, except it has much more power of course.

The yamaha G1 replacement clutch is the same as the 4 strokes, it runs the same rpms roughly, however the EZGO 2 stroke was much different and did rev more. I don't recall those clutches being that great to start with. I have a friend who put my sled spring in one and popped big wheelies all over, the engagement was 3800 or something. Then he put a huge carb on it and blew it up.
