State of charge meter.. bad meter?
I just installed a digital SOC meter I got from a site sponsor vendor for my 36v txt. I installed it on a freshly charged pack and it was at 1 or fully charged, drove cart yesterday and it went down to about 80%... came home charged it. Jumped in this morning and it was still at 80% so I drove it thinking maybe the charger didn't hook up good last night. Got the gauge down to about 60% and hooked up charger. Charged all day charger was at 2amps and I checked the gauge a few minutes ago still at 60% so I got the voltmeter and it read 37.30 that was right after disconnecting the charger. So I pulled the meter out and checked voltage at the back of it... still 37.30. I then unplugged one of the terminals on the meter then plugged it back in and it went to 1. What the heck is this meter bad or what. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Re: State of charge meter.. bad meter?
37.3v is only 75% charged which would mean your SOC is correct.
I suspect there is something wrong with your charger or batteries. Your charger should be at around 42V +/- when it's in the finishing mode before shutting off. What are your individual battery voltages? |

Re: State of charge meter.. bad meter?
Your batteries are nice and even with lots of life left in them but still at only 95%, 100% is 6.40v. Your batteries may be getting old and not wanting to take and hold a full charge.
You will have to reset your SOC meter again because you reset it with only 37.3v before. Ideally it needs to be reset at 100% charge. Here's a SOC chart for you: |

Re: State of charge meter.. bad meter?
Thanks Doug .. that must of been the problem I though the batteries were fully charged when I installed so it must of never saw a full pack. I unplugged it and plugged it back in (guessing that resets it). Yeah my batteries are the originals 06 txt guess they are just getting some age. Thanks again!!

Re: State of charge meter.. bad meter?
Well I have fully charged and unplugged the meter several times and it still doesn't move back up after a charge unless I unplug it and reset it. Guessing the meter is bad..

Yes exactly like the bottom diagram without lights. and my readings with my DVOM reads correct from leg 1 and 2 at the back of the meter.

Re: State of charge meter.. bad meter?
I guess the meter could be bad. I would contact your supplier and orchestrate a replacement. A PITA but sometimes sh*t happens.
