Default Options For A 1979 G1 Front Wheel Hub?

One of mine is shot. At one time the the outer bearing must have froze in there. The previous owner had the bearing replaced, but but there is way too much slop.

I've looked online, but see alot of times they are listed as discontinued. (Haven't actually called and spoken with anyone though).

Have thought about adding some weld, then machining to the correct diameter. This is a PIA though.

Can one upgrade to to a 82 and up G1 setup? Looks like it would require a new spindle/axle. The bearings are larger on these model years.

I'd really just like to buy the correct hub and be done with it, so here's hoping someone can help.

Indeed, these hubs are hard to find after making some calls. One Yamaha tech suggested JB Weld. So that's what is being tried! So far it looks good, it only needs 0.015" to make the bearing seat in there snug.

I'll update once I'm done grinding, sanding, cussing!

JB Weld worked well!

Smeared on

Sanded with bearing installed

The outer bearing was sacrificed during fitment. Hammered on it a little hard at the beginning!

Now it seats very nice with no wobble on the spindle.
