Tried reversing the pulsar wires...ran worse. Maybe the issues yesterday were dirty carbs. I need a filter and hose set up.

I'm not sure what's available. Radiator hose, shop vac hose, open element. People use what they can find and what fits.

Another dumb question. Now that I'm running HEI module and coil, should I change spark plugs??

I'm getting a few more misses now at cruising speed

Open the gap on your plug. A hotter spark allows a wider gap. Maybe around .030-.035.

While riding the kids around today we slowed down and then died. Had some smoke coming from around reed valves, but not too much. Found a swing arm connector for the oil pump dangling. Anybody else think I smoked that motor?

If you don't premix your gas, and rely on the oil injection, then yeah. It's probably not good news .

I cleaned out the carb and checked spark (very strong from HEI). Compression test next?

Update: did a compression test and got "0" with 2 different gauges. Pulled the top end of the motor to find a beat up piston. Ordered a new one with rings and gaskets. Rented a cylinder hone, got the cylinder cleaned up. Got everything put together and it worked. Pulled off 4 or 5 short trips to break in the motor. Then it died. No spark again. I put the voltmeter all around it and have a steady 17v going in to the ignition module and changing amounts coming out. I'm guessing that's my problem?? I'm ordering another from advanced and picking up shortly.

I found a hole with threads on the bottom of of the crank case that is letting out puffs of air as the crank is spinning...is that supposed to be open??

That threaded hole sounds like the pulse port for the fuel pump, think I read you have an electric pump. So you'll need to plug the hole with a short screw and sealer
