Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
You are losing voltage between the neutral switch and the solenoid.
Even if the solenoid is bad, you should have voltage to the terminal connected to the neutral switch. |

Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
The two big lugs on the solenoid should only connect to the positive battery post and the starter. F1 connection on the starter to be exact.

Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
Movement!!!! I cut out the warning and wired it like you said (leaving out the other switch on the f/r block) and the solenoid activated!!
I'm worried though....the motor turns VERY VERY slowly. Edit: I checked the voltage at the small stud on the solenoid and got 4.5. |

When I get home in the morning, I'll lay out the other circuits.

Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
In post 23 I said solenoid to F1. Disregard that. I was backwards. It's F2.
This is just the large cables before I go to bed. The FnR switch has four large lugs on the back. They are labeled clockwise while looking at them from the back. Start at the top A, B, C, D. B on the passenger side, D on the driver's side. From positive battery post to the solenoid. Out of the solenoid to F2 F1-A A2-B A1-D C goes to ground, which is the frame, and negative post of the battery. On the lower side of the starter there is a small stud. It should have a small green wire that connects to the center connection of the voltage regulator. I had to fix a lot of typos in this simple post. I'm going to bed. |

Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
Looks like the solenoid hasn't even shipped yet...Amazon is guessing it'll be here by next Monday.
I'm going to start cleaning the carb next. My guess is anything this old that was last owned by someone willing to undo all the wires and randomly stick them back hasn't had a carb cleanout in a while. |

Re: 89 EZGO - Electrical System Overhaul
Cleaning the carb, and fuel pump is a good idea.
Since you already checked the center wire on the voltage regulator, you may as well check the other two terminals. They will be marked D- and D+. D- goes to ground. You can choose where that ground is. D+ goes to positive voltage. That is usually connected to the small terminal of the solenoid that is also connected to the switches. The last part of the wiring is the ignition. There are red, and blue wires coming from inside the engine. Those are pulsar wires. They plug into the ignitor. I will have to look at my old ignitor to better describe how it connects. One wire goes to ground. That should have a negative marking. A positive wire runs over to the positive terminal of the coil. Again, I will look at mine later today so I can describe it exactly. |
