First Cart, need suggestions (electrics)
Ok I just bought my first cart 2 days ago. I have stripped it down over the weekend to the frame. And I plan on building back up slowly ($$$ is tight)
But I got it for $350, and its a 95 Medalist. Problems -Motor is corroded and rusty, and stud is broken to brushes on one side. -Controller looks like it got a little hot and opened up a little on one corner. -F&R looks like it just need to be cleaned up maybe. -No batts -Charger looks like its been outside for a long time. -Accel pedal (ITS) box was full of water. I am wondering if I should try to rebuild the motor myself and clean it up. Or should I just buy new stuff and replace everything? Or upgrade everything to 48v? Since I probably need all new anyway? If so what should I buy for upgrading? At reasonable prices. Not looking to go all out, just want a running cart, eventually with a lift kit, air bags, stereo, and lights. Here are some pics, let me know what some of you experts think. Thanks! |

Nice little project..... Since $ is tight, (and where isn't it?) I would fix it all stock and see how she runs with new batteries....... then start upgrading....

Re: First Cart, need suggestions (electrics)
im with scotty... but its so much easier to put motors/controllers and things in the cart with no bodies, so i would maybe think about putting differnt motor/controler combo in to start, have you thought about, buying a used PDS controller and motor, and throwing that in there, with a speed chip, best bang for the buck, leave it 36v for now, cauz u dont want to have to buy a new charger, good luck

As far as fixing the stock motor, looks like it will be about 100 or more in parts or more. For the studs, brushes, and insulators. Where do you guys usually look for used parts at? Im in the Houston area, dont know where to look local if there is anywhere. |

I still think you got yourself a swimmer and by the looks inside the motor case, I'd bet she's been swimming. Another Ike/Katrina cart maybe?
If it's been underwater and in saltwater, I'd pay attention to the chassis and especially the frame rails. JMO! Good luck w/ your project. |
