Lithium Battery Question
I have a question concerning the correct hook up procedure for a new cart project with lithium batteries. There is 15 batteries connected in series... just have to connect the positive and negative to their correct locations.
Question I have is which connection should be made last, first etc. Its only logical the main battery switch will be "off" when making these final connections so it may not matter. That being said its always better to be safe and ask.. Hope to energize this project over the weekend.. Any advice or experiences anybody has had concerning this set up would be greatly appreciated.. |

Re: Lithium Battery Question
As long as your club car has a stock configuration make sure the key is off and the run tow switch is off if you have one, you can hook them in any order you like.
If you have made any other changes let us know what they are before you hook them up. On one of my carts I chose not to use a main contactor, and I have to pre-charge the controller capacitors before connecting the batteries. |

Re: Lithium Battery Question
Keep these general safety thoughts in mind when working with battery. Disconnect the neg first as if you touch the frame no big deal, whereas if you touch the frame with your wrench while disconnecting the pos things can get really ugly if the wrench welds to the frame. Reconnect the neg last when putting stuff back together for the same reason. When building up a series pack it does not matter until you make the final connection to the cart as the circuit is not complete until then....

Re: Lithium Battery Question
Also remember that one of the problem areas that Lithium batteries have experienced is getting very HOT during charging...so be sure to monitor that side of the equation.
