Default Solenoid problem?

Do solenoids get weak and fade or do they just quit altogether? Sometimes mine will just give one click. Let off the gas pedal, hit it again and it cranks. I just finished cleaning all the contacts on the solenoid and battery.

A microswitch can go out that way ..... have you also cleaned the cable connections at the starter?

Mine did that. Thought the brushes in the starter were going bad. Turned out the starter belt wasn`t tight enough. tightened it up and works fine now.

The belt is tight, new micros, connections are good, cleaned them up yesterday. Starter checked OK by a rebuild shop.
