VW Diesel in a G1
So, I'm halfway through my first G1 build, nothing too fancy, and I'm already thinking of the next one...I'm a mechanic at a golf course and we happen to have a few old G1's kicking around in various states of disrepair....I have quite a few diesel engines and transmissions at home from VW rabbits.....had anyone attempted this before? If so can someone post a link if there's a thread on it?

Truthfully I think the G1 may have the least engine compartment room side to side of any of the carts. I could be wrong though. But, anything is possible if you have any fab skills and a few tools.

Re: VW Diesel in a G1
This is very true. I don't see how you could ever fit a VW engine in there and still use a CVT. I am in the process of installing a Kubota D722-TE turbo in mine and I had to modify the main frame on the passenger side. I boxed it out with 2" square tubing out to the side rail and had to cut out the original round tube frame rail for it to fit length wise. I can post pics when I get home. And to get it to fit height wise I had to do a 12" suspension lift dropping the front of the swing arm and the rear shock mounts.

Re: VW Diesel in a G1
I saw a video of a stock cart with a v8 in it, not sure how but it would smoke the tires lol.
Lot of them put in a jackshaft to run the clutch if you can't make it work. You might need a short oil pan. If still not you will have to lift it, but then that is usually not a bad thing. |

Re: VW Diesel in a G1
Here is what I did to accommodate a inline 3 Kubota in my G1. I didnt have to lift it this much but I wanted to! lol! 12" of suspension lift. Will be putting 27" Kenda Executioners on it when I come up with the $650 to buy them.
I also widened the front wheelbase by 7" and positioned the about 3" farther forward in the front and back. I will install 3" wheel spacers on both sides on the back to make it wider in the rear. |
