Question Do the freedom chips work that I see online.

I have a 2012 ezgo txt 48v. I see online the freedom chips for around $10.00 dollar. Will they work on my 48volt cart? I am new to all this and just trying to get the best bang for my buck right now. just trying to maybe get a smidge more torque and a little more top speed. Any ideas that won't break the bank. Thanks everyone..

That would be no. Won’t work on the 48 volt carts.

Freedom chips are particular to the Ezgo PDS (36v)
There were 3 chips or jump wire plugs available.
The freedom chip for speed, a hill chip had more regen brake, and a torque chip.
This was the first such personality or mode program offering seen for a golf cart. The freedom chip was very popular with it's 19 mph top speed. Todays Alltrax offers 23 mph from the same cart(s) and you can add a FN device to dial up more speed or switch between 3 user set modes... fun stuff.

Is there any way to get more speed other than dropping $500.00 dollars?

I think someone with a curtis programmer can change the settings to give you more speed. Where are you located?

Also, what's the current top speed? And tire size?

The controller in a 2012 TXT48 is programmable. Freedom mode can be toggled on and both speed and torque can be turned up. You can remove the controller and mail it to be reprogrammed. It gets mailed back and you reinstall it. I do them quite often. Having good batteries and better cables helps with the improvement so it can draw more current as needed.
