How did your tensioner mods work out? Built a Kaw ZX6 powered cart and had constant chain problems with stretching. Used 520H and it didn't like the pitch when wrapped around a 12t driven sprocket.
Interesting work on the cart! Came out nice.
Now you need a pair of NASCAR window nets to keep elbows from going under the roll bar...If it rolls...
How fast is it? I'd guess faster than typical golf cart suspension can tolerate. Like the Beemer too! Always had a soft spot for the early style BMW 6 cyl.

Thanks! I geared it to 40 mph in 4th gear at 8000 rpms but I’ve come to learn that 25-30 mph is fast enough. I replaced the rear suspension with heavy duty shocks and springs which helps with the speed.

Yes so far my tensioner system is working well. It’s not pretty but my chain doesn’t jump anymore. I’m just using a swing arm with a roller on it and a hose clamp to tension it against the chain.

Good that you solved the issue.
I ended up slotting the axle mounting holes and installed an ATV style screw adjuster on each side. It worked well, but the chain required frequent adjustment. Very short chains and tight wrap are know for this. Should'a went with live axle, but wanted reverse.

What size sprocket did you use on the leccy motor?

I am currently almost done with the same conversion but I used a 125cc atv motor with reverse. If I get golf cart speed I will be happy.. it is to be used at the beach on all flat terrain and if I go to fast the po po might be too interested in what is under the seat

Can you take some more pics of your drivetrain setup?

looks good

The transmission drives a 12 tooth sprocket on the jackshaft. Then a 33 tooth sprocket drives an 11 tooth sprocket I welded onto the input shaft of the differential.

I ditched my tensioner setup and went with a larger gear to take up the chain slack. The tensioner system wore out after a few weeks of driving around.

So essentially the only way to achieve normal old "cart speed"
is to use a jack shaft then..

I am **** at math... I know i'll be grinding off the 18t on the rear now...
I'll try to find an 11t for a 420 chain
Then wonder if I can run the 18t as a front to an 11t in the back? and achieve 10-12 mph without redlining the poor little thing

or a jack shaft as you have pictured... and thanks for the pic

The issue is the reduction in the differential. My G16E differential has a 12:1 reduction so i needed to offset that with a jackshaft. If you’re not using the differential then you can probably get away with not using a jackshaft.

I was (so far) still planning to use the differential

The cart is essentially done, and wired etc.

just to get the gears right

An ATV axle is a plan B

I'm guessing a jackshaft is easier than transplanting an ATV axle. You can customize your gear ratios with a jackshaft. I just swapped out my gear driving the differential to a larger one to make 1st gear more usable and gave me more top end. 1st gear was topping out around 5 mph before.
