Default Ezgo V-Twin pedal start?

So when I started collecting parts for my v-twin swap into my 2002 ezgo txt I saw that people were still using the pedal start. Now I am just finding posts that say that I should use a key start.

1. Will the ezgo starter/generator be powerful enough to turn over a B&S 16hp eveytime?

2. Has anyone setup a pedal start and find out that it didn't work well and had to change to a key start?

3. Who sells a bracket to install the ezgo starter/generator?

4. Who sells a pulley to use the stock starter/generator with a comet?

5. Do I really need a comet?

Thanks to anyone that can offer any insight.

I'm not trying to dismiss your questions, but would like to know why you would want a pedal start on a Vanguard.

I'm sure "someone" has done it. However, most do not because the Vanguard has a good reliable starter and charging system built in. It's way easier to wire the starter and charge wire. I did mine in about an hour. No pulley, belt, adjuster, etc to deal with.

But if someone has done it, they'll chime in.

I like the idea of getting in and going. But if I "need" to have it key start I will go that route.

I'll keep digging but if anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them.

I hear ya. For what it's worth, the Vtwins do start very easily and smoothly, especially in warmer weather. You will need the choke on a cold day either way though. As long as compression isn't too high and the starter/gen is in good order it should work. You would want to remove the starter and solenoid to get more room around the engine.

From there, the mount for the starter/gen might need modified or remade to fit next to the Vtwin. I have never seen a "kit" for this type of thing though, pretty much a custom deal.

Vegas Carts sells the Comet 780 and a custom billet aluminum pulley to use behind it for the starter gen. You might want to call them and see if they have done this type of setup, they may have and might even have the right parts to do so.

I just bought a Jacobsen Hauler. It's basically an ezgo workhorse that comes from the factory with a 16hp vanguard and pedal start. I tried to find a parts manual and get you a number for the bracket but haven't had any luck.

Do you know the specs on your motor. Does it have a charging ring? How many amps?

Not sure. Haven't really done much, not much time but I can pull some numbers off of the engine if that will tell us.

Thank you for the info. I would rather keep it and can weld and fab if need be. I'll call VC when I get a chance too
