Default battery/charger

ok, i have bought a 1991 ezgo marathon. it looks like the cart has 3 everstart 24V DC deep cycle marine batteries in it, and it came with the stock 36V ezgo charger. i know its supposed to be a 36V cart with 6 - 6V batteries. It all seams to work, but i dont know if it was converted right or should even work. the battery charger seams to work but takes for ever to charge and i would say the charge lasts a decent amount of time. my question is what should i check to make sure it is safe to use in this configuration. or should i return it to stock, and is it gonna cost a fortune to fix so it works right.can i just change out the battery charger is also a question i have.
