curtis 1206sx controller
I have a curtis 1206sx controller in which the diodes and fets have blown up.
the fets are IR839g, and the diodes are cr4180r. I am fairly knowledgeable about electronics, but these are custom made. Has anyone successfully repaired one. thanks for any replies |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
Those diodes do not exsist. I looked for several months before finding a company who made them. The reason they are hard to find a replacement for is the anode and cathode are backwards from the standard diode. Check out http://www.mccsemi.com/, they were the last place I found who had a diode like the ones curtis used. The amp rating was lower though.
As far as repairing one....I have had limited success. |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
I think they were the MBR*** series...all the way on the bottom of this page.

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
yeh, i called that company, i have ordered a mur2020rg, it is a 20A, 200v made by onsemi. fairchild also has one it is a fep16bta. it is a 16amp, which is like the one by mccsemi, but those are both duals, so you have to tie pin 1 to 3. I also ordered an irf1310 to replace the mosfets. been talking with a guy that has fixed them before. Just wondered if anyone had anyluck. I wil let you know how it goes

roady89,
you say you had little success repairing these, I was wondering what kind of problem did you run into. did they just blow up again, or not work. Just interested what you ran into thanks |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
I rebuilt one complete unit and messed with a few more. It did work...sorta. Acted like it had no speed control. I replaced the fets with higher map units and it did have more torque off the line....but no speed control. This could have been in the smaller, what I think is the driver board. Something on theree could have been bad.
If the solenoid is not clicking you have something else wrong. That won't be in the controller. I'm interested in your choice of components. If you get a chance could you post your component sources and part numbers? I have a working unit I would like to play with. |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
i replaced the cr4180 with mur2020r
and replaced ir839 with irf1310 I had been talking with a guy that had worked for ge. So, i was going off of what he said. these parts were totally blown up and had burnt the traces. I couldn't find any specs, because these had to be custom built for curtis. so I was going off of him. mur2020r is a 200v 20 diode with anode on the case like the 4180's. mosfet is a 100v mosfet. original problem was no movement, but the relay clicked, then no click at all. but if you jumpered coil with 36v, it still works, so it led to the controller. don't know what to do now. |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
Keep trying till it moves or lets the magic smoke out. LOL! You have to watch out for the power needed to drive those fets. Driver board may not be providing enough power to switch them on and off. I'm sure Nate will chime in on this topic. I'm gonna move it to Extreme DC. |

Re: curtis 1206sx controller
yeh, it's like there just not turning on. I was hoping it would smoke, so I would know if i missed anything. that ir839 actually had the mark ne22 on top
which i think is the correct ir p/n, but after research, still looks like a custom part. |
