Newest one from that link, still from 2015, not sure if there's anything newer.
Its a self extracting zip file, just needs to run the .exe after renaming both.

1. Bought this cable: https://a.co/d/0jk7ASTK
2. Wired up the molex to the end for the black, yellow, and orange wires as this thread told me to for TXD, RXD, and ground
3. Ran FT_PROG and used Bob's XML file like this forum said to
4. Installed 1314 version 3.12 (Build 30)
5. Connected cable between laptop & RXV
6. Put cart in tow
7. Turned key to N

When I hit CONNECT and select Autodetect in the 1314 software it never finds anything. If I try to manually set the protocol (MC-2 Slave , MC-2 Master, etc...)

Anyone know what step I'm missing to get the 1314 software to recognize the controller?

I think you need the newer version of the software. It is available using the info on page 121 of this thread. Also did you invert Tx and RX? Pics of the plug for reference. Also cart should be in Run.

I can confirm that my cable matches your photo, thank you. Also that the FT_PROG has INVERT TXD and INVERT RXD as checked.

I followed page 121 and downloaded 1314-PCPS_OEM_4-6-7-467_setup.exe and ran it. Now when I launch 1314 it is version 4.6.7.

I set the cart to RUN and Turned the key on to N

Now when I click CONNECT in 1314, I'm first shown this warning message.

Then when I clear it, it says this error message:

You need to work on your registry entries. You need a SAL and a IAL entry. Go to pg 178 in this tread to get the one for OEM. Make sure to copy and paste.

I'm not able to see any Registry SAL/IAL information on or around page 178. Is it maybe another page? My attempts to search the forum are also coming up empty on what registry things to edit.

Entries are here. (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Curtis Instruments\1314 V4\Settings) You need an IAL and SAL entry and use the text values on pg 178 for what level you want. Start with OEM.

Ahh OK. So when I open Registry Editor, I see there is already a SAL so I updated it to be v1ìD to be OEM. Then I added an IAL with the same value.

I no longer get that error when opening 1314 and the access level is at OEM in the settings.

So I then:
  1. Rebooted PC
  2. Connected PC to RXV
  3. Turned key to N and left in RUN
  4. Launched 1314 software and clicked the Connect button

I still get the same error that no running system is found. I also disconnected the USB cable from the PC and clicked Connect in 1314 again and got a different error saying no interface was found, so that leads me to believe the cable part is set up correctly.

Here is also a screenshot with FT_PROG open showing settings as well as 1314 open showing the error message.

What else could be missing?

For me anyway there was some confusion on the wiring pinout.
Try swapping the TX/RX wires and try again.
That pop up is due to mismatched wiring or bad connection.
