Default Let me tell you a little story.....

Had an old golf car mechanic friend call me and ask if I could look at a G16 that would turn over, try to fire, then back fire thru the carb. We did a compression check (on the lower side, but useable). Checked valves and seemed to be opening and closing all the way. Spark plug was not wet even with the choke pulled. Removed and cleaned the carb. Fuel pump was putting out a nice stream of fuel. Used a "dynamic" spark tester to check for spark. We got it to run, but the spark was weak and would sputter out at higher RPM. After talking with the mechanic friend, seems the owner had tried to fix it him self. New Mokuni carb/ fuel pump and lines and a new TCI. As we went thru the testing, we pulled back the fan shroud and found it was an aftermarket TCI. I asked my friend to call the owner and explain he really needed to "buck up" and get an OEM TCI. I called today and said that owner said no and would come pick up the un useable car. Story ends....Do NOT buy aftermarket electrical parts or engine rebuild parts, brakes also! Tires and wheels/ lift kits/ other add ones will work just fine. Call me a bad guy for this post, but if you want the job done right the first time......Please take notice. Good luck on your projects

That's a good story, and true...

That's one thing I hate about aftermarket TCI, they fail in all sorts of goofy ways. The factory one only fails in one of 2 ways, no spark ever (even with kill relay unplugged, which should be "always sparks"l, or heats up, shuts off, works again after cooling down. Pretty easy to "nail down" a oem tci failure.

Some parts are simply 'OEM only'
