blowing fuel pump diaphrams
Hello;
I have a 89 ez-go gas the cart runs good. The problem i'm having is it seems to be going thru fuel pump diaphrams. I'v had the cart for about 7 years and i've put 4 fuel pumps on it so far. The diaphrams keep splitting right on the edge. Does anyone know the cause of this? The cart gets used alot for off road use. I have a lift kit and 10" tires on it. Is there something i can use to make my own diaphrams? I thought of using some mylar or if someone knows of some other material that is impervious to gasoline that would work. The diaphrams are .005" thick. Also the repair kits are 30.00 and up and you can buy the whole fuel pump for about 5.00 more than the repair kit. Any help will be appreciated. THANKS KEN |

Re: blowing fuel pump diaphrams
Sneek, look into a sled pump and the rebuild kits for them.
Some of our sponsors may have aftermarkets also. |

Re: blowing fuel pump diaphrams
Thanks guys.
I will look into your suggestions for a long term fix. For a experiment i took a nitril glove and cut a diaphram out of it. It is working great for the moment but i don't know how long it will last. I rode the cart around for awhile yesterday and didn't have any problems. I'm always looking for low cost solutions to things. THANKS AGAIN KEN |

Re: blowing fuel pump diaphrams
Have you checked for sharp edges around the pump body? Try a little emory cloth to relieve any sharp radius.
Also remove the pulse hose from the pump, stick your finger over the end and spin the motor over, Do you feel you have a lot of pulse variation (in and out)? might need to dampen it down some. For $5 more go with a new/different pump? |
