I believe what you ar looking for is amperage around 1000 - 1200 not voltage! Voltagage is only used to activate ~ Amperage is what passes thru the suka... and you are wanting to dump a 9 pack of 8v ?

I think what you are looking for is solenoid with 6 posts that will handle 1000+ Amps

Are we talking 1000-1200 continous amps? I haven't seen any reversing contactor in a reasonable price range that is rated for this. #2 cable is only rated for about 100 amps continous.

I am thinking 1000 amps momentarily .... Maybe a couple of seconds then 400 or 500 (?) whatever his pack can dump

I think you are underestimating the 2g?

NEC table 310.16 rates #2 awg for 130 amps if it is 90 degree wire, not factoring in derating for higher temps and motor duty, or derating for 60degree lugs( rating of most electrical grade lugs) The reversing contactor in link is rated the same as the sw202, 400 amps, 250 continous(meaning 3 hours of full load duty) and capable of breaking 1500+ amps.

That contactor sounds like it will fill the bill.

Now about the 2g welding cable.... are those values you quoted based on losses over 100 ft? ... you can send a lot more than 100 amps thru a 3 ft piece of 4g than that. Golf carts do it every day... I am using the 600v 600 strand cable shown in the bottom chart...

No, these values are not factoring 3% voltage drop calculated in a 100' foot run,I was stating ampacity rating of current carrying conductors As per National Electric Code for a 90degree ambient rated wire, the higher temp rating the higher the current carrying capability. Unfortunately most lugs are rated for 60d, diminishing the temp rating in theory. Yes carts pull the current through smaller wire but only momentarily, a continous load of 400-500 amps on a 2awg wire would cause a meltdown.

No battery pack can sustain a draw of 4-500 amps Continuous? So what are you saying, here? I'm getting a little confused ...

Here you said after inrush the load would be 400-500 amps.

I have done this change 2 ways, one is to use 2 White Rogers 586 double pole double throw units connected together with 3/8" copper pipe hammered flat and drilled to fit, or much better yet a Allbright SW822 that is already set up for reversing. ( NOTE CHECK for correct newer part numbers as they may have changed and for your voltage battery pack ) I have found that the Club Car switch #101856001 and housing #101855002 work best and fit right in place on original CC battery box cover and are much better at standing up to water damage.
