Drive 2 2nd key switch
My Drive 2 is somehow blowing/using key switches.
My initial switch from the factory went out last year / earlier this year, luckily figured it out, ordered a new switch and was all good. Let my wife take the cart to pick up a few friends and it died on her. I luckily was able to diagnose it a little quicker this time, but had to purchase another switch. I doubt this is bad luck on the second switch, what could be causing the issue? |

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
OK, my searching ability found this thread, which is most likely the cause.
https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=148314 "Too much current through the switch from your accessories. Do they only work with the key on? If so, time to wire in a relay and dedicated power feed for them." So with that being said, where do I wire in the relay and power feed? |

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
You buy a 48v to 12v converter with a trigger that is tied to the key being on. That will allow the accessories to run directly off of the batteries and your key switch is only putting out a small "on or off" signal. Pretty simple, or you can add a dedicated 12v battery for accessories and add a switch to that battery. Several ways to do this easily.

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
Problem with powering the converter through the key switch is that it has big capacitors in it which spike the current when you turn on the switch. The key switch isn't designed for that kind of load. Get a good converter with a trigger circuit or leave it powered.

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
I'm a decent electrician when it comes to household 110 & 220, & car/boat wiring amps, switches etc. However with this single lithium battery and the rats nest of wires makes me a little anxious.
If I could get a better understanding of the 48v - 12v it sounds simple, but honestly I would have to have a step by step schematic of what goes where, I don't want to mess anything up. The second battery option I think I could wire up, but it'll cost more and would have to wire a switch and charge that battery ever so often. |

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
A good 5 wire reducer wires the 48V side right on the battery + and - terminals with the trigger going to the key switch. Then the 12V goes to your accessories. Fuses on both the 48V and 12V are required for safety.

Yes that one should work and it has wiring instructions.

Re: Drive 2 2nd key switch
I purchased it, will see how it works out. I think I get the gist of it, any suggestions before I rewire this?
