Default 420cc Raptor into 1985 ezgo marathon

I have decided to put A 420CC into 1985 ezgo marathon, my question is the new motor the-420CC the shaft is on the right side of motor which put it almost touching the drive shaft. Im not sure how to remedy that without making changes to frame. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Can you post a pic of the engine compartment?

Is this a 2 cycle cart?

So if you can see the motor in the 1985 ezgo - the clutch shaft comes out of the motor left justified on the 420cc it is right justified. So the clutch shaft on the 420cc will be close to where the starter is. I hv replaced almost everything on this motor besides rebuilding it, but I really want it to go faster & read that the 420cc is the best. But I don't want to just jump in & purchase it without researching. The 420cc measures 11 1/2 inches from shaft to left side of motor, so I wont be able to move the 420cc motor to the left without hiting the frame.

Slonomo asked you a question that you have not answered either!

Have you considered the reason why he asked the question?

If your existing engine is a two stroke, you will lose reverse. The best option is to find a later rear axle with a reversing gearbox and place your engine to line up the clutches front to back instead of side to side like it is now. Whatever you decide to do, you are likely going to have to fabricate mounts and brackets for the engine. So an axle change will be your best option to use that new engine.

Hi I am sorry if tht came across negative, I did post 2 pics & I thought I did say it was a 2 cycle. Thank you for your opinion. I had a feeling there was going to be alot of fabricating. Again thank you.

No problem. We will ask questions that may seem irrelevant, but are important for us to guide you. Slo asked the question for the exact reason I stated. People do not always realise that reverse will be lost when going from 2 stroke to 4 stroke engines in these carts. You gain reverse with the engine running backward. A 4 stroke will only run in one direction therefore needs a reversing gearbox.

You can make anything fit into anything, with the right tools and ability.

Is this a sideways mounted engine? Meaning, does the drive belt go side to side or does it go front to back?

If it's front to back, you can likely make the engine work if you fabricate a mounting plate that positions the engine in the correct location, aligned with the secondary clutch. If this is a two stroke cart, you will not have a reverse gear, as the engine rotated backwards for reverse.

If it's side to side, good luck. Not saying it's not possible, but that's not the prefered mounting method. Not much room that way.

There's no bolt in kit for this project, you will have to fabricate an engine mount and install custom wiring etc.

Looking at the pictures, it is side to side hence part of my response previously. I thought it best to also mention the loss of reverse.
