2001 Gas ezgo txt engine drag
replaced the valves in the engine late last year. Now out of nowhere when you let off the gas, it feels like it has engine drag or like you just down shifted a manual transmission and has a high rev sound and slows down. It used to basically coast when you let off the gas. Any ideas?

Probably drive clutch not opening fully. With the cart stopped, see if you can pull the black part of the clutch further away from the engine. A big clue would be the sheaves both touching the belt with engine not running and difficulty engaging forward or reverse

Thanks, I will check that and see. If it does pull away from the engine and/or the sheaves are touching the belt, what would need to be done?

Take it apart and clean it out good. Cycle it a few times and it’s usually fine as long as none of the flyweights inside are broken

I was able to check the clutch and I was able to pull the black part out away from the engine.

That's good, but you still need to take it apart and clean it good, Just like CP241 suggested or it will just happen again.

Re: 2001 Gas ezgo txt engine drag
Do I need to take the engine out to pull the clutch or is there enough clearance to do it while still in the cart? I know I can get to the bolt, just not sure how far is needs to slide out to pull it.

No need to remove the clutch. Just remove the three screws and remove the black cover. You can blow out the dust etc with an airline. Work the clutch back an forth while blowing. Remove the belt first though.
