Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
I was able to make some progress. About as far as I can go without using parts from the new engine. Going to pull that out and then the new one goes in!

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
Looks good! What did you use for paint on the valve covers etc?
Might want to reduce the size of your photos, they take up the whole screen |

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
Finally got everything finished up and fired it up last night. Time to put it in the cart, fab the exhaust, and then tune the carb!

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
Think about mounting that breather so it points up. The oil splashing around will then drain back down and not make a mess...23+hp Vanguard...

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
Isnt 36mm really big for these motors? I read 30-32mm is ideal

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
All depends on the engine and what you are wanting to do with it. If you are wanting slow low rpm driving, then you want a smaller carb. If you are building an engine with high rpm and max power in mind, then larger carb is ok. Jetting is super important.

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
I chose the carb based on a couple people's feedback. One switched from a 30mm PVT carb setup and said it was a night and day difference throughout the entire rev range. He played with jetting and only a small pilot change was needed. I will be sure to post my thoughts on this setup compared to a stock 16hp with a rev kit.

Re: Vanguard 18hp Build
Got to go for a first drive today. It runs fantastic and has tons of power/great throttle response. I do not believe the gears I have work in my rear so will have to rethink that. Definitely runs out of gear quick. Here is a quick clip
