Default Gas Gauge Not Working on Carryall

Just picked up a new (to me) 1997 Carryall. Decent overall shape, has a lift kit etc. Other than the parking brake not working-any ideas on that?- I can't seem to get the factory gas gauge on the dash working. There are 2 wires on the sending unit on the gas tank-they're connected ant the float in the tank seems to move freely. What else can there be to check? Thanks for any input!

Take the wire on the center of the sending unit and ground it. It should make your fuel guage go to full. If it does the problems in your sending unit. If it's your sending unit, take it out. Once out take the nuts on top off. It will come apart in 2 piecces. Sand where the 2 parts meet. Sometimes it loses connection ther and will not work. It's worked for me in the past.

New to the forum. Just got myself a 97 Carryall 1. Looking forward to working with it and doing some upgrades.
Do I have to spend the $60++ on a gas gauge specific to Club Car or will any gas gauge work from the parts store?
