Replacing kingpins & bushings G16
Is replacing the kingpin and bushing kits something that can be done at home or does it require machining and a press? It's a '98 G16. Just want to know before I tear it down.

Re: Replacing kingpins & bushings G16
My g8 was done at home with hand tools and a 12 inch heavy duty c clamp.

Easy to do. A hammer and maybe a nail to push the lock out. If it's rusted, then it may be a little difficult.

Re: Replacing kingpins & bushings G16
Pretty simple and should be able to do them at home as long as they are not completely seized up. You'll need a hammer and small punch to knock out the roll pin. Be sure to clean and grease the new ones and install the little rubber/plastic caps on top.

That's pretty much what I was thinking but I wanted to hear it from the experts. Wish me luck. Parts are on the way.

Agree with you guys... A do it at home job... just a note: I modified my spindles slightly and added grease zirks to the spindle body to aid in maintaining bushings and try to get some added life ...

Thanx for all the advice. I finished the job today. It went very smooth. Easy but greasy.

Re: Replacing kingpins & bushings G16
Joe, did you flat side the king pin, or did you drill holes in it to feed the bushings?

Re: Replacing kingpins & bushings G16
Hey Mike,, After pulling mine apart and seeing the severe wear, Decided there had to be a better way. I used a hacksaw on the inside of the bore of the spindle body top to bottom. carefully cut in apprx 1/16 just the width of the blade to intersect with the location of the zirk hole. It was pretty easy and works like a charm.. the grease has no where else to go but thru the bushings.I guess the idea of flat siding the pin would work as well.
