Battery question again, mine are shot
I know this has been brought more times than Carter has liver pills but my batteries are not holding charge. Not even with a maintainer hooked up they start dropping below the beloved 50.9V pack voltage. The batteries are 5 yrs old.
My cart, not the one in my avatar is a 2015 rebuild. It has the 6-8V batteries I purchased the cart used and I could tell that battery maintenance was not a priority from the previous owner and I figured batteries had already suffered before I started babying them. I saw some at Costco a few weeks ago. Interstate, GC8, RC 110, ah@20hr 160. I don't remember the price but it wasn't bad. Are these good batteries or should I try to find a Trojan dealer or other? Anyway, gotta shuck out some bucks for new batteries. Not looking to replace one battery. I will change the pack. I've got some research to do but I'd appreciate recommendations. I'll add that to my research. |

Unless you have first hand experience with another brand, I would stick to US Battery, Trojan or Crown.
And if you are not driving long distances, you can still get more life out of those. 50.9 is 100% but 50.5% is still a lot, too! |

The voltage is dropping below 50.6 with a maintainer hooked up. I've been doing research on the Interstate Costco sells plus reading some battery threads here.
I plan to find Trojans if I can. They will be higher in price I'm sure. |

Good choice. Just shop around, I have seen them all over the price range based on where you are in the country. I always looked for the best deal on those top 3.

Re: Battery question again, mine are shot
OK, no Trojan dealers close enough to me but, I did find a place called Battery Warehouse.
I called them this morning and asked if thy had 8V golf cart batteries. Guy says yup, we got a bunch of them. I ask what brand and price. The guy says US and $117 each. So I pull the batteries out of the cart and head over, about 60 miles from here. I'm worrying how long they have sat on the shelf all the way over. I'm impressed. They had a pallet full and all were dated 6/19. "F9" plus each battery had electronic pen markings on each battery 6/19 with some initials. The US batteries were rated 170 AH @ 20 HR, same as my T-875 Trojans that were bad. I checked the voltage of each of the new US batteries and all were within 1/100 of a volt with average reading of 8.36 V. Got back, cleaned out the battery compartment and installed the new batteries. I checked pack voltage before I made my final connections to the cart at 50.2V. I made the final connections and turned my Run/Tow switch back to run. I checked to make sure the cart worked then hooked up the Charger. Everything is beautiful. This is the first set of new batteries that I've had to break in in a long time. My OTD price for 6-170 AH US batteries was $778.12. |

That $117 is exactly what I paid for my last set in April of '18

Cart is still on charge and I figure it will be for a while to get the new batteries up to full charge. I just checked the digital voltage meter on my dash and it was up to 56.8V with the Power Drive 3 Charger still putting out 6-8 Amps. It should be ready for its first run tomorrow morning. Then the new battery break in begins. It will work out just right. I've got a few Sporting Clays tournaments to shoot coming up soon. |
