Default Yamaha G29 Nissan Leaf Build

So this has been a rollercoaster of a build. It's taken about three weeks between ordering parts and finding the time to work on the cart. Before I go too far I want to give a HUGE shoutout to @pingeye3. I could not have done this without his help. He is always ready to take a call and explain things. Although he had to deal with my thick skull. It took me a while to understand, but no matter how frustrated I would make him, he was always there to help.

Major parts of this build are:
  • 14 module Nissan Leaf from Techdirect. (took advantage of the memorial day sale, free shipping and 8% discount)
    Alltrax XCT 400
Zeva BMS 8-16 with monitor and shunt. I didn't know the evms current sensor was a better option (Gary still worked with what I bought)
Paid Pingeye3 (Gary) for the aluminum plates for the pack.
Bought connectors, relay, etc from mouser.
Fuse panel, charger, wire, etc. from Amazon
Bought the 3D printed terminal cover from cmysstailights

Once I had everything built and installed my wife and I took it out for a test drive without putting the covers back on to make sure everything was working. It was amazing. Topped out the speed at 44(kmh) about 27 MPH. I went to bed happy and had a few things to finish up for today.

Today- put on the new windshield, secured all components to the tub, put the rear seat back on, wife used Blak and Gloz renew kit. Installed turn signal beeper. The cart looked great and was finally ready to roll. We decided to drive to my Dad's house to show him my work, which is about two miles away. We were on a flat backroad, not going fast, maybe 15-17 and then all of the sudden we hear a terrible grinding noise. Cart will barely move. Hit the accelerator and hear the terrible noise again. Now I just spent three weeks with complex electrical work (for me at least, this is child's play for pingeye3) and I don't feel like messing with the motor/gear housing to figure out what this is. I did put the cart up on jack stands and turned the wheels a little and you can hear/feel the grinding. I checked for a loose kingpin bolt on the read drivers tire hoping it would be loose and unfortunately it is not.

So I have a fantastic battery system, but now a bad drive system. Have to laugh at this point. It'll be working soon enough. I am going to take it to a service company, unless you fine people have an idea.

I'm terrible at posting images on this forum, so I will try to upload the rest.

This last image is my ride of shame. Dad came to pick me up on the backroad.

I don't know what went south, but I'm proud of the job this man has done all on his own. (Along with pingeye3's long distance support) Helluva job for a tradesman, even better for an attorney.
Mike Ditka said "this too shall pass." You will come out of this not only with a great cart, but also the satisfaction that you did it yourself.
Better times ahead, Dad.

Well you got the hard part done! Congrats!

Could be something simple causing the grinding. Have you checked the brakes?
