Default 1982 G1 help

I have figured out i have a 1982 G1 gas, can anyone tell me what the difference is and whats the same with all the other years made.
I have found the exhaust or some sort of gases are/is coming out around the crank seal so it has to be replaced and check the piston for damage, but it still has 110 compression.
Looks like this will be a fun job, any info would be right helpful.

All G1-a's used the same lower end assy's, 1982 they tried a lower compression top end (ie: cylinder/head/reed assy/carb and exhaust). At 110 lbs compression, you'r good (minimum would be 90 ilbs). Clutch side crank seal # 93102-30188-00 and flywheel side seal #93102-30128-00. I do recommend OEM seals for there higher quality over aftermarket one's, how many times do you want to do this job? For the clutch side, you will need a "primary clutch fixed sheave puller", it is "swedged onto the tapered crank end (unless you get very very lucky). Do a search for G1 crank seal relacement, there many. Good luck on your build

thanks for the info smallblock450sl.. I have worked on some snowmobile engines and em waiting for the puller to come, of coarse the clutch didn't just pop off, i did get the other side off and I don't know how it ran at all... it was packed full of fine dirt where as you couldn't get any more in it... looks better know.
I did find this in a ad for a gasket set... to explain the 1982 thing some
"SEALS FOR 1979-UP EXCEPT 1982 (REED CAGE IS SMALLER)."
So is it just the reed cage? just need to make my own gasket?
I take it the head and block to head gaskets are the same as the rest, just the reed seal and reeds are different?

Yep sounds right, if you are in for a rebuild, try to get ahold of the non-1982 stuff, the performance will be better.

could just shave the head down on the mill a bit or the the jug ,depending on the stroke , don't need the piston hitting anything,.... I am waiting for the clutch puller to show up then i will take the rest of the engine apart to check the piston for damage and check the bore for out of round and or over size.
