Default 14hp vanguard upgrades

I picked up a cushman hawk that has a small 14hp vanguard engine and going to replacing it with a new 23hp briggs vanguard that has a cheetah cam and high rev kit :)

As for the 14hp motor goes what can I do to make it a little beast ? Or just sell it to recoup some funds back

Keep it simple with the 14. Install a rev kit. Remove the restricters in the exhaust ports. Get a single barrel carb from a 16/18 hp. Should be a cheap buy on ebay. That will wake it up. Don't waste your time and money looking for a 2 barrel set up. Not worth it u less you're dropping in a bigger cam. Sell it off....$250 or so....

What Field said

I really prefered the built 16 I had over the 23 and the 670. Quicker revs, more controllable power, idled really nicely, quieter, and it was still plenty fast. The CPP cam and rev kit was a super nice upgrade to that engine, responded really well.

I have a built 16hp that’s runs like a banshee
I THINK not positive the 14 is a 30 ci like the 16 so it WILL respond to mods
Precision cam (cheetah)
Isky valve springs
Add 2 steel pushrods to replace the aluminum ones
Remove Governor
Bigger carb and 18 would work
Free flowing exhaust

What kind of increase did you see with the cheetah cam? I have a 23hp cam in mine and looking for a little more hp. Where did you get it?

Pantrramatt the cheetah is a big increase over the 23hp cam which I also had in mine waste of money for me
I got mine from precision cams they have different grinds this ones 310 lift and 250 duration
Ground on new B&S shafts or they have billets too
CPP also sells the Cheetah cam they are also made by precision

I got my cam from CPP, highly recommend! I also got my rev kit from them. I didn't use a 23hp cam, but when I talked to Bruce, he assured me the big cam was going to make it scream!!! And it did.

Do you loose any torque with the cheetah? My cart climbs steep hills now I just want more. It had trouble in the snow last year with 3 adults which is understandable. Was thinking of getting the heads milled to bump up compression too
